I live in Texas. Perhaps we could join Canada as the eleventh province.

Minnesota already considers itself a suburb of Canada...

I think Trump's talk over this and other takeovers is just another distraction. Send the cops to the factory fire he set so he can rob the bank.

I am Canadian & share your yellow snow comment. O'leary WAS a Conservative political hopeful. He stumbled, when his boat hit & killed another boater in Ontario. His wife plead guilty to captaining the boat & faced the consequences re alcohol, but many thought, she took the fall for him. He is not my idea of a great Canadian representative. Both countries have produced deplorables.

I agree that Trump's comments on annexing Canada are sheer looney tunes, but I have no idea why he's doing this - maybe early stage dementia with no filter. Trump is not a strategist so I I'm not looking for a "hidden" meaning. I'm a retired academic and over the years, I submitted research papers and attended academic conferences from Vancouver to Newfoundland. I loved going to Canada, meeting the people (who really are polite), experiencing the food and customs. I especially like Montreal with its many parks, shops, museums and cultural spots. If you haven't seen it, I recommend the movie Canadian Bacon (John Candy) about a US President who's experiencing a downslide in approval ratings and needs the threat of war to improve his popularity. He chooses to demonize Canada. It's a funny movie, typical John Candy.

The real question is this: what are the trump group trying to do that this Canada business is intended to distract us from? Of course the notion of incorporating Canada is a no-brainer and will never come even close to happening*, but the media and other forums (including this essay) are being sucked into this stupidity while [something substantive and nasty] is going on. (This does sound a bit like a conspiracy theory, doesn't it?)

*Like the prospective election of trump to the presidency was considered in 2015, but never mind.
